  • Benthic algae blooms in Lake Baikal

Photo taken on March 29, 2024, at the boundary of the lake ice and the Angara source. 100% coverage of the bottom to a depth of six meters with typical Baikal filamentous algae: algae of the genus Ulothrix and diatoms of the genus Didymosphenia. The length of the filaments reaches up to three meters, and the diameters of the "balls" diatom are up to 25 cm.
